About Janine

Janine is a purpose-driven Indigenous child welfare advocate with expertise that spans over 15 years and includes delivering child welfare services at the front-line, being a part of the creation of an Indigenous child and family services agency to more recently senior policy analyst work and subject matter expert, as well as supporting First Nations at negotiations tables. She is of a member of the Tsilhqot'in Nation (Tl’etinqox) with mixed Cree-Métis roots and has spent most of her life in BC’s central interior. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work with a Child Welfare Specialization and a Master of Social Work. She is currently situated on the unceded lands of the Algonquin people.

Janine takes great pleasure in re-imagining Indigenous child welfare. From community engagement, consultation and planning, policy analysis, to designing service delivery models, she aspires to support Nations in achieving their community goals. She was a panelist at the 2022 Our Children, Our Way: A Forum for Indigenous Child and Family Well-being Conference. Passionate about giving back to the community, she was the 2014 recipient of the Bridget Moran Advancement of Social Work in Northern communities and previous board member for the BC Association of Social Workers and the Canadian Mental Health Association – BC Division.
